RFA Talk > New to RFA but a old timer in food addiction recovery

Good Morning RFA Members,

My name is Karen and I am a Christian in long term recovery from Food Addiction. [Compulsive Over eating, Binge and Graze behavior, Severe Calorie Restriction for over 10 years/Anorexic, Over Exercise, Laxatives, and on and off Vomiting/Bulimic for 5 years]
At the age of 24, I began the Recovery process by becoming Aware when God led me to Kay S. book, "Food Addiction; The Body Knows back in 1990". After trying the food plan on my own, I slowly and fearfully entered the rooms of FAA here in West Palm Beach Florida and met a wonderful lady named Charolette. 4 years later, I moved further south and found another group called FA and attended there for about 5 years. Then God called me out of traditional 12 step face to face meetings and into attending Celebrate Recovery and traditional phone meetings.
Then 3 years ago, I got remarried and joined a new church. For the past five years my recovery is shared in my church community through "Redemption Recovery Group" Bible Study and Support Work. We work with area treatment centers. BUT, I miss the community support from willing members of traditional 12 step meetings and found RFA a few weeks ago. I would like to get to know you all very much.
The work I put in, in attending traditional 12 step meetings both Face to Face and online as well as the phone, and having a Disciplined Plan of Eating and Abstinent Food Plan, structured a "new normal" with food and eating and body image behavior. The spiritual awakening that occured at the end of 15 years of "doing the work with hope" delivered a quiet still voice of recovery to be shared. I am so grateful for long term recovery and need to share it with others who are still struggling.

I do not have a RFA sponsor. I have an "Accountability Partner" for the food and a Sprititual Mentor as well. What does RFA recommend to be a member of RFA and to sponsor others?

Grateful for all of you,
Karen

Hi Karen,
Welcome! I'm glad that you have found us.

RFA has no guidelines for sponsorship, but the conventional wisdom from other traditional fellowships applies to ours as well. Experience suggests having a sponsor who has worked the 12 Steps of RFA, having worked the 12 Steps of RFA yourself and attending meetings regularly.
there is a phone meeting on Friday nights at 8pm. Info available under the "Find a Meeting" heading on this page.

Make posts here so people can get to know you. When people ask for a sponsor, you can connect through this site.

feel free to contact me if you have any questions:

hope to hear more from you soon and congratulations on your abstinence. :)
Love,
Kasey
