RFA Talk > Help in Sydney

I've just started the RFA program and I'm struggling finding things they use in the states here in Sydney. If anyone is in the Sydney area and could help me out, I"d really appreciate any suggestions you have. Please feel free to email me at thadams98@yahoo.com or 0400201812 or through this post....

Thanks for the help

What sort of things are you looking for? My sister lives in New Zealand and might have some ideas. So glad you are reaching out! I hope to hear you soon on the Friday night or Saturday afternoon meetings! Alison

Thanks Allison, I'm a big salad eater and not very fond of just oil and vinegar for dressing. I know there's one in the states by Paul Newman that's sugar free, but can't find it here in Sydney. Also mayo, of course we don't have Dukes here and I looked at EVERY label in the grocery store the other day. Cant find anything to substitute it with. I was just looking for someone in the Sydney area that we could possibly meet once a week or two and share ideas and weigh in together....

Have you tried different oils to liven things up? I like sesame oil for Chinese (steamed chicken, veggies, brown rice). I also love braggs liquid aminos for a soy sauce flavor. I think Kay Sheppard has a mayo recipe in her cookbook. Once you have the mayo, it is easy to make lots of great dressings with mayo and 2 tb of yogurt and condiments. I wonder if dukes would ship to you? There are lots of food addicts out there! Join us on the phone meetings and your recovery will surely draw others until you have a face to face. I love eating at restaurants with my recovery buddies in Atlanta! We all "weigh in" by using our scales at the table!!

Thanks Alison, I'll try those. Even though I'm in Australia, I'm also living 6 months of the year in Georgia just out side of Atlanta. Just between Athens and Atlanta. Small world. There's a lot of foods you can't bring in because of the egg content so I doubt they'd let me accept a package from Dukes. I'll look for that recipe for mayo and work on a salad dressing. Thanks for the ideas

HI Toni,
If there are health food stores there, you might have better luck finding abstinent mayo there although there are no guarantees. For our needs, health food stores arent' necessarily heathier than other stores. Mixing oil with yogurt might be helpful, too. You can use yogurt as a condiment; up to 2 T per day.

Thanks for reaching out. It's great to see the responses to your request.

Love,
Kasey
